The funny bone's connected to the...

Everything in the universe has a connection of energy, flowing from the food we eat that the ground gave us, that the water nourished to our bodies nourishing the ground after our time. This all to say, everything is connected in getting damned central air in our house. In no particular order: we need more insulation in the attic and some in the walls wouldn't hurt either; we need an "electrical upgrade" as the electric box is about as old as the house (born: 1955) and way way out of code. Also the high voltage power line running to the box is way way out of code as it is too low, way way too low. Dammit. There's more. We need to either replace all the windows or re-caulk them and have solar screen put on them to reflect the sun. Dammit. THEN, we need to have plumbing work done to re-route certain gas lines (I don't understand this part) when the new A/C goes in. Dammit. Then, we can have the A/C, but even an energy efficient system with a really cool computer thermostat that can control and regulate like a mofo, and that costs around 7500 (including labor).

Dammit.

But there is hope. No, we probably are not going to win the lottery. I already thought of that and my darling mathematician of a husband then reminds me of the odds...dammit.
No, the hope is that I have family who has electrical experience as well as A/C experience. Yay! Some good news. The bad news is that it will still cost us a lot. If I had known about all the electrical shannagans going on that the A/C guy expressed surprised that they passed code, then I would have negotiated a little bit more on the house. I mean, come on! They installed a box that is weatherproof when installed VERTICALLY. But said box is installed HORIZONTALLY. Geez.

All in all, I was feeling very nauseous and overwhelmed when the service man left my house this morning. And when I talked to my mom on the phone about it, I wanted to cry. But Mom talked me down and I am doing much better. Apparently, my dad and uncles can do the upgrade and I am sure we can do the insulation ourselves too. Also, I think doing the solar screens would be much cheaper than replacing (although they do need to be replaced eventually), so things might actually get done this summer.

I don't really want the a/c , I feel bad because there are people who really do need it, people older or not as healthy as I am. Plus, it uses up a lot of energy and I would rather try to find some other way of cooling the house... Yet here I am complaining. But at the same time, we are going to be needing roommates for a while to help with mortgage payments and having central air would help in acquiring roommates when that time comes.

Anyways, I have whined sufficiently for today. Maybe I should change my website to Whineblogspot or something. Oh! Some good news...I made an A in my class! Yay!

Ciao,
Michelle
